Associate, Abstraction Training

Flatiron Health
Medical & Healthcare Full-Time NY office
Reimagine the infrastructure of cancer care within a community that values integrity, inspires growth, and is uniquely positioned to create a more modern, connected oncology ecosystem.

We’re looking for an Abstraction Training Associate to help us accomplish our mission to improve and extend lives by learning from the experience of every person with cancer. Are you ready to be the next changemaker in cancer care?

What You'll Do

In this role, you'll work with the Data Capabilities (DC) team to design and build educational products that train our remote clinical data abstraction workforce and provide learning support to internal DC teams in their work.

Our remote abstraction workforce—primarily nurses, tumor registrars, and clinical research professionals—converts unstructured clinical data into structured, usable data. Working via our proprietary software, they extract key data points from clinical documents across thousands of community clinics and hospitals. Your training content will ensure this large remote workforce maintains high performance in both quality and efficiency.

Reporting to the Manager of Abstraction Training, you'll work cross-functionally to design, build, and implement abstractor training content, develop new use cases for learning interventions, and improve team operations.

Your work directly enables Flatiron Health to create high-quality, in-depth clinical data at-scale to fuel our Research data product, and ultimately, learn from the experience of every cancer patient.

In addition, you'll:

Design and build training content in collaboration with our Clinical Quality, Clinical Data, and Clinical Abstraction teams in accordance with standard processes and playbooks, using data-driven approaches and learning science principles

Identify key gaps in abstraction training and develop targeted interventions to bridge these gaps — from comprehensive courses to light-touch training interventions

Support internal Data Capabilities teams by identifying learning and performance gaps and delivering learning solutions that help them work more effectively and efficiently

Develop and share best practices for knowledge management, training, and process documentation

Explore and leverage emerging tools and technologies—including AI-assisted tools—to streamline content development processes and identify training opportunities more efficiently

Identify and execute on opportunities to improve Abstraction Training team workflows

The Abstraction Training Associate will work collaboratively with Clinical Data, Clinical Abstraction, Clinical Quality, Abstraction Operations, Research Oncology, and Foundry.

Who You Are

You're an instructional designer with 2+ years’ experience in developing training content with a portfolio or body of work for review. You're excited by the prospect of rolling up your sleeves to tackle meaningful problems each and every day. You’re a kind, passionate and collaborative problem-solver who seeks and gives candid feedback, and values the chance to make an important impact.

You have a Bachelor’s degree

You have experience designing and implementing training programs for adult learners, including working with diverse Subject Matter Experts to identify learning needs and develop solutions

You have knowledge of creative training techniques, accelerated learning, just-in-time and workflow-based training methods, Learning & Development best practices, and evaluation standards

You have experience designing and delivering asynchronous learning solutions for remote workforces

You have experience with multimedia, video editing, and e-learning authoring software (Articulate, Captivate)

You are familiar with Learning Management Systems (such as Docebo) and SCORM asset management

You demonstrate exceptional attention to detail

You have excellent project management, organizational, and communication skills

If this sounds like you, you'll fit right in at Flatiron.

Extra Credit

You have a degree or certification related to instructional design, especially with a focus on digital and adult learning

You have a nursing degree, healthcare experience, or comfort with oncology terminology

Experience with WalkMe or similar performance support/digital adoption platforms

Comfort with emerging learning technologies and AI-assisted tools; demonstrated curiosity about how to leverage new tools to improve efficiency

Experience in a mission-driven organization with evolving priorities and a culture of continuous learning and improvement
